William F. Powell is an internationally acclaimed artist and is recognized as one of America's foremost colorists. He is also known for his cloud and skyscape paintings.
A native of Huntington, West Virginia, William studied at the Art Student's Career School in New York, Harrow Technical College in Harrow, England, and the Louvre Free School of Art in Paris, France. His work has been represented in majorgalleries and reproduced in the form of illustrations, prints, and limited edition collector's plates.
He has been professionally involved in fine art, commercial art, and illustration for more than 45 years. His experience as an instructor includes oil, watercolor, acrylic, gouache, colored pencil, and pastel with subjects ranging from landscapes and seascapes to still life, portraiture, and wildlife. He holds awards for the technical side of his art, which has been used in major space and environmental programs.
Background sets and model making for films, animated cartoons, and animated films for computer mock-up programs have all been a part of William's work.
He conducts workshops and produces instructional videos that employ unique methods of in-depth presentation and demonstration concentrating on color mixing and painting techniques.
A large mural that William painted for the California Air National Guard in 1957 is on permanent display at the Air Force Museum at March Air Force Base in Riverside, California.
