Molly Jacques is the talented artist, illustrator, and teacher behind the beautiful hand lettering projects featured in the recently release Pinterest Perfect. In her Detroit-based studio, Molly crafts artwork for The New York Times, Martha Stewart Weddings, and The Wallstreet Journal, just to name a few. She also regularly blogs and teaches her calligraphy skills to students through various workshops. Basically, Molly does everything and makes it look good.
Making art is meant to be fun—some might even call it a relaxing and meditative experience. Sometimes it is a treat to get to build on another artist's work with your own creativity. Coloring is the perfect ready-to-go way to tap into your inner artist.
As hobbies go, urban sketching gives you a lot of bang for your buck. With nothing more than a piece of paper and a pencil, you are equipped to start drawing your city or village, the people who live there, and the things that are happening in it.
I'm a huge fan of having apps on my iPad that I can turn to whenever I find myself with a few free minutes—in an unexpectedly long line at the post office, waiting for an appointment, early to meet a friend for dinner. As an artist, two of my go-to apps are Walter Foster's Learn to Draw and Kids! Learn to Draw.
