Making Art

Contemporary Watercolors

"I must be a mermaid, Rango. I have no fear of depths and a great fear of shallow living." Anaïs Nin

The very first illustration I tried when I first started painting with watercolor was that of a mermaid. Because of the dreamy-ness that watercolor can create, I thought it would be a great project. That and the fact that I'm completely obsessed with mermaids.

With watercolor you can create a variety of textures, lines, and color emphasis. Contemporary Watercolors introduces the basic techniques of watercolor and serves as a fantastic reference tool for both novice and skilled artists.

The last time I attempted watercolor, I was a small child. I had a small, simple kit that included five colors and a clunky brush that lost its hair while I painted. Coming back to watercolor as an adult, I've found that it is an art form to be respected and admired. But as any artist would tell you, it's the quality of your brushes that makes the biggest difference!

What could you paint using water color?
