Pastel Techniques: blending secondary colors
The circles of pastel swatches on the left represent primary colors (red, yellow, and blue) with their tints and shades (white or black added) above and below. The middle circles show how mixing two primaries creates a secondary. The pastel swatches on the right show what the secondaries look like when tinted with white, toned with gray, or shaded with black pastel. Tinting and shading are two pastel painting techniques every pastel artist should become familiar with.
